Cost Event Judge

Position Description:

For this event, each student team will submit a cost eBOM report using an online cost module that details the manufacturing processes, materials selected and associated cost of their complete vehicle. The eBOM is pre-assessed before competition before competition to determine which teams will go through either a full audit or just section of their vehicle.

Cost judges are assigned to inspect the cars from a predetermined and assigned group of schools to confirm that the car and the costs assigned to the car in the cost report fairly represent the actual costs for such a prototype. The cost judges will either judge an entire vehicle or selected subsections of the vehicle. The teams will be informed on site if they will be audited as not all teams will be audited.

Judging takes place all day on the static day and can be made up of 15 or 40 minute sessions with each team that is selected for audit.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications/ Experience:

Cost judges should be reasonably well rounded in manufacturing process and finance with some background in industrial engineering. Past Baja SAE experience is not required but is preferred.

In addition, an outgoing personality with a friendly approach to people and understanding of academic learning events is highly desirable.

Orientation and Training:

All volunteers will need to read the rules, review the scoring rubric, and will undergo training either prior to or onsite at competition.

Judging onsite.

Time Commitment:

Onsite judging has a 1-day minimum. Hours vary between 8-10 hours.
